For the purpose of this contest, the nominated websites must be for a registered business.
To be eligible for this contest, the registered business must have an existing website as of January 1, 2017.
Anyone can nominate an ugly website by completing the online form found at http://uglywebsitecontest.technogoober.com/entry.html. Registered businesses may nominate themselves.
Nominations will be accepted from 12:00pm EST on October 1, 2017 until 12:00pm EST on November 30, 2017.
Any nominations/submissions that are deemed to be contrary to these rules, incomplete, inaccurate, computer generated, inappropriate or offensive in any way, in Techno Goober’s sole discretion, will be rejected. A website will be ineligible if Techno Goober determines that it was modified for the purpose of being nominated for this contest. All determinations of Techno Goober are final and binding.
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by Techno Goober. The panel of judges will be made up of professional designers, marketers and programmers from Techno Goober. The panel’s judgments will be fair and honest with the aim to choose a website that is most deserving of Techno Goober’s services. Judges will choose up to three finalists based on the following criteria: design, copywriting, effective calls to action, site age, charity reach, search engine ranking, static HTML vs CMS, social media presence, broken links, code quality, browser support and age of existing site. Bonus points may be provided for items such as “under construction” messages, visible hit counters, use of blink tags, scrolling marquees, badges stating the site is “best viewed in” a specific (outdated) browser, animated mail icons, auto-playing music, intro pages or the use of comic sans font.
Before the finalists are announced, the three finalists will be contacted by Techno Goober to confirm that they wish to enter the contest. Only the identities of finalists who agree to enter the contest will be made public. The finalists will have their websites linked to – and their home pages displayed on – the contest site as well as through Techno Goober’s social media presence (Twitter, Facebook, etc). The new website that results from the winner’s prize package will also be featured on the contest website, and on Techno Goober’s website.
Finalists will be announced at 12:00pm EST on December 1, 2017.
The winner will be announced, based on the most votes received, on January 1, 2018.
The Contest winner will be contacted by a representative of Techno Goober within five (5) business days of the draw by email, as provided by the entrant in their Contest entry form. Potential Prize winners found to be ineligible, decline to accept the Prize or who are unable to be contacted (including failing to return phone calls or emails) within five (5) business days of the draw will forfeit the Prize.
Following confirmation as a prize winner in accordance with the Contest Rules, selected entrants will be given instructions and a deadline as to how they must claim the prize. Potential winners who fail to claim the prize before the deadline, as instructed, will forfeit the prize. The Contest winner must sign an official contest release form.
The winner will be provided with Techno Goober web design services (including consulting, design, and 1 year of hosting) up to a maximum value of $5,000.00 based on Techno Goober’s normal rates. The winner must co-operate with Techno Goober’s usual processes for web design and creation. Work on the website must be completed during the 2018 calendar year. The winner must sign Techno Goober’s standard customer agreement.
Prizes and prize portions are non-exchangeable, non-transferable, non-refundable, have no cash surrender value and must be accepted as awarded with no substitutions.
The prize values above are approximate, and are based on the provider’s usual rates for similar services. The prize must be accepted as awarded and may not be transferred or exchanged.
The odds of winning are dependent upon the number of nominations.
Techno Goober will make reasonable efforts to provide the prize in a timely manner to the selected winner. In the event that the prize cannot be awarded to the organization that receives the most votes as the result of a rule violation, Techno Goober reserves the right to award the prize to a runner up.
Techno Goober may alter the dates contained herein at its discretion.
Subject to applicable law, Techno Goober reserves the right to cancel, suspend, terminate, modify the Contest Rules or administration of the Contest, in whole or in part, without prior notice with no obligation or liability, including, if for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, whether due to technical failure, tampering, fraud, corruption of security or other causes beyond the control of Techno Goober.
